Ava Answers – Episode 4, “When Should I Get a Credit Card?”
When we first created Ava Answers, it wasn’t just about making financial education fun — it was about helping credit unions connect with future members in meaningful ways.
In Episode 4, Ava (and her dog, Kash) answers a question from Isaiah, a Northern Illinois University student:
“When should I get a credit card?”

This is a very important question as a credit card is a large financial responsibility. It is a great tool for building your credit score which is a benefit in obtaining loans in the future. However, if you don’t pay it off every month, the interest charges can really add up quickly. Not paying the entire balance is something to avoid if you can. Ava talks about how she used her first credit card to pay for gas for her car and paid the balance off every month to start building credit.
